Eliezer ben Joel ha-Levi (Rabiyah)

(1140-1225)

   German scholar. He wandered from place to place, visiting Bonn, Worms, Wtirzburg, Mainz, Metz, Cologne and Regensburg. He refused to accept rabbinic office in order not to derive material benefit from his learning. Eventually he accepted the rabbinate of Cologne in 1200. His Sepher ha-Rabiyah contains halakhot and legal decisions according to the order of the tractates in the Talmud, and also responsa.
